AMBASSADORS

Represent your destination. Inspire the world.

Ambassadors are passionate advocates who help strengthen the Taste of Place movement within their own communities.

Whether promoting local culinary traditions, connecting professionals, supporting educational initiatives, or sharing knowledge with the global community, Ambassadors play an important role in protecting and celebrating the unique food cultures that define their destinations.

Working alongside the World Food Travel Association, our Ambassadors help build awareness, encourage collaboration, and inspire others to value the importance of Taste of Place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED AMBASSADOR QUESTIONS

  • Do I need to be a WFTA Member?

Ambassadors at any level are required to maintain a professional membership. Guardians are invited to serve without that requirement.

  • What is the difference between an Ambassador and a Junior Ambassador?

The Ambassador program includes two pathways.

Ambassadors are established professionals with experience and networks that enable them to represent the World Food Travel Association and support the Taste of Place movement.

Junior Ambassadors are emerging professionals or students who are building their careers while contributing to the movement through learning, participation, and local engagement.

Both play valuable roles in advancing our shared mission.

  • Can there be more than one Ambassador in my destination?

Yes. WFTA may appoint multiple Ambassadors within the same destination when they bring complementary expertise, represent different sectors, or help strengthen local engagement. Appointments are made based on the needs of the destination and the goals of the Ambassador program.

  • How much time do I need to commit?

There is no fixed time commitment. Ambassadors contribute in ways that fit their professional schedules and personal availability. Some participate by making introductions, attending events, or sharing knowledge, while others take a more active role in supporting local initiatives. We value meaningful contributions rather than a specific number of hours.

  • What support will I receive?

WFTA provides guidance, resources, regular communication, and opportunities to collaborate with Ambassadors around the world. We work together to help Ambassadors succeed while encouraging them to adapt their activities to the unique needs of their own communities.

  • Do Ambassadors receive any training?

Yes. Ambassadors receive onboarding materials and access to resources that help them understand WFTA, the Taste of Place movement, and their role within it. Additional educational opportunities may also be available through the World Food Travel Academy and other WFTA programs.

  • Is there a cost to participate?

There is no extra cost beyond the requirement to hold professional membership for Ambassadors and Junior Ambassadors. Guardians serve by invitation.

  • How are Ambassadors appointed?

Applications are reviewed individually to ensure applicants share the values of the Taste of Place movement and are well positioned to represent WFTA within their communities. Selection is based on experience, commitment, professional reputation, and the potential to contribute to the movement's mission.

  • Can I apply to be a Guardian?

No. Guardians are invitation-only, but you may nominate someone you feel embodies the spirit of the Taste of Place Movement.
