    2017 FoodTrekking Awards second annual competition for excellence in food and beverage tourism see more

    The World Food Travel Association (WFTA), the world’s leading authority on food and beverage tourism, announced today that the 2017 FoodTrekking Awards for excellence in food and beverage tourism are now open. Rather than another Top 10 or best restaurants list, the FoodTrekking Awards are unique in that they fill a void of recognition of experience excellence in 13 categories within the food and beverage tourism industry. Food and beverage is the fastest-growing sector of travel, which itself is one of the world’s largest and most economically significant industries.

     2017 CATEGORIES & APPLICATION PROCESS The number of categories being recognized has grown from only 5 in 2016 to 13 categories in 2017, as follows:

    2. Best Food/Beverage Tour Operations (Land)
    3. Best Food/Beverage Tour Operations (Water)
    4. Best Beer Experience
    5. Best Foodservice Experience for Visitors

    2017 JUDGES & SELECTION PROCESS Ten experts in their specific fields will serve as judges for the 2017 Awards, as follows:

    Each judge reviews two different applicants according to established criteria in a confidential review process. In the event of a tie, a third judge will review each of the tied applications. A grand prize and a runner-up are selected for each category. A small application fee charged to each applicant helps to offset the cost of managing the awards.

    2017 AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT & CEREMONY The winners of the 2017 FoodTrekking Awards will be recognized at a special ceremony at the conclusion of FoodTrekking World, the world’s largest food and beverage tourism convention for the trade, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Portland, Oregon, USA. Award applicants are encouraged to attend FoodTrekking World, but are not required to do so to enter or win.

    THE JUDGES

    Excellence was assessed by a panel of five expert judges who included Benjamin Brown (cruise industry expert, Los Angeles, CA, USA); Gabriela Ibarra (destination marketing expert (Mexico); Steven Shomler (food truck, author and culinary journalism expert, Portland, OR, USA); Livio Colapinto (tour operations expert); and Stephan Berrouet Durand (foodservice and food event expert, New York City and Haiti). For each submission, the judges sought evidence of excellence in various criteria, including whether the experience represented something “unique and memorable”.

     

    THE SELECTION PROCESS

    Winners were selected only from submitted applications. For each category, there was one "grand prize" winner and up to two runner-up winners of equal standing.

     

    2017 AWARDS

    This year’s awards recognize excellence in the five categories named above. The 2017 Awards will expand categories to include food and beverage events; cooking schools and classes; and more. The next FoodTrekking Awards nominations will open in January 2017. Winners will be announced at the 2017 FoodTrekking World event in Portland, Oregon, USA on April 4, 2017.

    WORLD FOOD TRAVEL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2017 FOODTREKKING AWARDS WINNERS

    Awards given for excellence in food and beverage tourism

     

    PORTLAND, Oregon, USA (April 10, 2017) – The World Food Travel Association (WFTA), the world’s leading authority on food and beverage tourism, announced today the winners of the 2017 FoodTrekking Awards for excellence in food and beverage tourism. Food and beverage is the fastest-growing sector of travel, itself one of the world’s largest and most economically significant industries.

     

    Rather than another Top 10 or Best Restaurants list, the FoodTrekking Awards are unique in that they recognize excellence in experience in multiple categories within the food and beverage tourism industry.

     

    SELECTION PROCESS

     

    Winners were selected from among all submitted applications. Judges were asked to evaluate the business strategy for the submitting company or organization; the marketing communications that support the product or business; the overall public reputation of the company or product; and as needed, the individual product itself. Each application was reviewed by a minimum of two different judges. For each category, there was one first place winner and up to one second place winner. Not all categories had second place winners.  Applications for the 2018 Awards will open in October 2017 at FoodTrekkingAwards.org.
